Protect Your Concrete for Life with Vetrofluid

A single application of Vetrofluid increases abrasion resistance and stops all causes of concrete surface deterioration. Permanently.

Concrete Durability, Inside and Out

Vetrofluid® is a high-performance pozzolanic penetrating treatment that permanently strengthens and protects concrete from within.

Unlike surface coatings that wear away, Vetrofluid becomes part of the concrete matrix — stopping water intrusion, increasing strength, and extending service life with a single application.

The Problem: Why Concrete Deteriorates

Concrete may look solid — but it is porous like a sponge. When you spill water onto concrete, you can see it gradually being absorbed into the surface. Water, salts, chlorides, chemicals, and contaminants penetrate through capillaries and microcracks.

Over time, this leads to:

Concrete damage occurs through four primary mechanisms:
1. Foreign Object Debris (FOD) pose serious safety risks to aircraft and equipment.
2. Spalling - The flaking or breaking away of surface concrete.
3. D-Cracking - A freeze-thaw deterioration caused by moisture-sensitive aggregates.
4. Alkali–Silica Reaction (ASR) - A reaction between cement alkalis and reactive aggregate.

What is Vetrofluid?

Vetrofluid is a highly reactive pozzolanic penetrating treatment composed of select silicates and a catalyst system.

When applied, it penetrates deeply into the concrete and reacts with free lime, unhydrated cement and natural pozzolans to form additional calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) — the compound responsible for concrete’s strength.

This reaction:

  • Permanently fills pores and capillaries
  • Reduces permeability
  • Increases density and cohesion
  • Becomes integral to the concrete matrix
It is not a coating. It does not form a film. It does not wear off.

How Vetrofluid Works.

Deep Penetration
  • Up to 1.5 inches in existing concrete
  • Up to 3 inches when used as a curing treatment

As Vetrofluid integrates into the concrete matrix, it prevents water intrusion and strengthens the concrete—the two primary factors in stopping deterioration. The result is permanently harder, denser concrete that is better protected against water penetration, freeze–thaw cycles, and the salt, chloride, and impact damage that begin affecting concrete as soon as it cures.

Vetrofluid is clear, and does not change the color of the applied area. The samples above were treated with Vetrofluid, allowed to cure, then placed into a bucket of red food dye and water. The sponge-like capillary action of concrete drew water into the pores, but it could not penetrate the area treated with Vetrofluid- the thick red line shows where the porous, exposed concrete ends and the strong, Vetrofluid protected concrete begins. Protects Against Freeze-Thaw Damage (ASTM C666-A)

Freeze–thaw deterioration begins when water penetrates concrete and expands during freezing.

By drastically reducing water absorption, Vetrofluid interrupts this destructive cycle.

With minimal internal moisture:

Untreated concrete cubes exposed to 303 freeze/thaw cycles show significant spalling and surface damage.
Concrete cubes treated with 1 coat of Vetrofluid and exposed to 303 freeze/thaw cycles show minimal damage (94% dynamic modulus remaining)

Resistance to Salts, Chlorides & Chemicals

Chlorides, deicing salts, sulfates, and industrial chemicals deteriorate concrete by penetrating its pore structure.

Vetrofluid reduces permeability, limiting:

  • Chloride intrusion and rebar corrosion
  • Sulfate attack
  • Salt scaling
  • Acid degradation

While no concrete is fully acid-proof, reducing permeability is the first and most effective line of defense.

Strengthens Aging & Deteriorated Concrete

Vetrofluid:

  • Densifies deteriorated substrates
  • Strengthens the repair interface
  • Stabilizes edges around repairs
  • Reduces recurring spalling

Instead of repeatedly repairing symptoms, Vetrofluid addresses the underlying weakness.

Many repairs fail because the surrounding concrete remains weak and porous. When the substrate continues to crumble, even the best patch, overlay, or joint repair will break loose again.

The result?

Facilities and maintenance crews end up fixing the same repair over and over as the concrete around it continues to degrade.

Vetrofluid Restores the Foundation — Not Just the Surface

Vetrofluid solves the root problem by penetrating the existing concrete and chemically transforming it from within. Instead of temporarily covering deterioration, Vetrofluid strengthens and stabilizes the entire repaired area, including the vulnerable concrete surrounding a patch.

Each patch tells the same story: the repair held, but the concrete around it did not. As deterioration spreads beyond the original damage, crews are forced to return again and again — repairing not the repair, but the failing concrete surrounding it.

Cracks are healed up to 3 mm

  • Cracks don’t have to mean failure. Vetrofluid can transform damaged concrete into a durable, waterproof, and resilient surface.

  • Vetrofluid penetrates cracks to their deepest point, strengthening the concrete from within.

  • The treatment can self-heal cracks up to 0.3 mm, permanently sealing them through a pozzolanic reaction with the concrete matrix.

  • For larger cracks, Vetrofluid provides functional waterproofing by penetrating into the surrounding concrete and strengthening the crack walls.

  • Even if water enters the open gap, the treated concrete remains protected, preventing freeze–thaw damage.

  • The open crack top allows freezing water to expand safely, helping prevent further cracking.

  • Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) testing confirms that Vetrofluid reaches full crack depth and restores internal concrete continuity

Prevents Shrinkage Cracking (When Used as a Cure)

Shrinkage cracking creates pathways for moisture and long-term deterioration.

When used as a curing treatment on new concrete, Vetrofluid:

  • Locks in moisture
  • Hardens the surface
  • Penetrates up to 3 inches
  • Eliminates shrinkage cracking

Unlike film-forming cures, it does not require removal prior to striping or coating.

Compatible with Coatings & Membranes

Planning to apply epoxy, membrane, or surface coating?

No problem.

Vetrofluid sits just below the surface, allowing you to apply any paint, coating or membrane you choose. It’s negative-side damp proofing prevents epoxies from bubbling, and if a membrane or coating ever fails, Vetrofluid remains in place as an additional, invisible layer of protection beneath the surface.
